THANK YOU MANDY MILLER FOR AN AWESOME SEMINAR LAST WEEK!

We would like to thank Mandy Miller for a very interesting and informative seminar last week. Mandy taught us that each run or workout we do must be done with a purpose. She shared the importance of getting out of our comfort zones and trying different things in our training, but most of all, how variety and multi sports can help us get faster, fitter and stronger; among other valuable teachings. Mandy Thank you so much! You were wonderful!

SAVE THE DATE AND JOIN THE FUN! SPEED TRAINING KICK OFF AND SOCIAL NIGHT

Weekly Speed Training Sessions at Central Park start Tuesday, July 14! To kick off these tough, but great workouts, we will be going out for a fun social/pizza night to a nearby place after the run. THANK YOU FOR CONTRIBUTING TO OUR FIT SHOE DRIVE!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our FIT shoe drive the last couple of weeks. We collected a total of 17 pairs of shoes. A special thank you goes out to Assistant Coach Veronica for coordinating these efforts. Thank you all for making it such a success!

"TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK: KEEP UP WITH YOUR TRAINING EVEN WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF TOWN!"

If you are traveling for the holiday, or any time you are out of town, it is important that you plan accordingly and keep up with your training while you are away if at all possible. If doable, stay at a hotel that provides a gym or a treadmill, or research the area to see if you can do outdoor running. If this is not possible, plan accordingly and try to get your miles in before you go away.

IMPORTANT! PARKING AT GEORGE ENGLISH PARK

Reminder! Please do not use the Tennis Parking Spots as they are reserved for the Tennis Players. If you use Tennis spots, you are at risk of getting your car towed according to park officials! Alternate parking can be found across the street or by the school area.

"My Success Story" By Tammy Guess

Tammy has bounced back and she is thankful she joined FIT !

I joined Friends in Training in August 2006 at the request of a friend who thought it would be a great idea to train for a half marathon. With the help of F.I.T., I managed to complete my first half marathon in December 2006, at the Marathon of the Palm Beaches. It was tough! Those friendships I made between August and December came in handy when we pulled each other across the finish line with motivation and determination. In January 2007, I completed my first marathon at Disney World. I felt so accomplished. It was a wonderful feeling and I owed all if it to the support that I received from my friends and from the wonderful coaches. Since then, I’ve completed two additional half marathons.

It wasn’t always this easy, however. I joined F.I.T again in 2007, but after reaching 6 miles, I began to experience extreme hip pain. My weekly runs dwindled to nothing and I gained more weight due to my lack of physical activity. Additionally, I was struggling with an illness that has affected my life since I was a teenager. This illness was depression. It took all of my energy and left me lifeless on the weekends, choosing to sleep excessively. My outlook on life was negative and running didn’t seem to matter. Fast forward to the end of 2008 and the moment when I discovered a moment of clarity and empowerment. I identified my needs and prioritized my life. In December of 2008, I began my weight loss journey and have managed to lose 45lbs. I began running again in February and joined F.I.T. again this past April. As far as my depression, I’m essentially 90% symptom free and no longer reliant on medications to keep my energy and moods stable. It’s been a long and difficult journey towards the happiness that I am experiencing and I only see bright things for the future ahead of me!

The support and inspiration of EVERYONE whom I’ve met since joining Friends in Training has changed my life in ways that I cannot quantify. Thank you Friends in Training! To read more on Tammy please click here

Tammy has come such a long way! She is now in group C, she looks great, running strong and she is doing terrific! Tammy we are so happy to have you as part of our FIT family! We love you and we are proud of you for all you have accomplished and for bouncing back! Way to go! Enjoy the journey ahead of you and know your FIT friends are by your side. Remain strong and positive and keep being an inspiration to all of us!
