We are so excited about this weekend! Our Fall Full Marathoners will be completing their very first 12 miler of the season! Let’s cheer them on!

SEMINAR THIS SATURDAY: WELCOME NEW MEMBERS SESSION 1!!

Join us this Saturday as we extend a warm welcome to our new participants! We ask that if any of you want to share what FIT has done for you and how much you are enjoying your training, that you do so. Your stories will encourage and inspire our new members! You will have an opportunity to do this after our stretching session.

We will also have some great raffle prizes including a free entry to the Halloween Half Marathon, and 13.1 Ft Lauderdale. Next week, we will raffle an ING Miami and an A1A entry as well, among other really cool prizes! You must be present to win. Don’t miss it!

TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK

IMPORTANCE OF RECOVERY!! PART 2

-Looking for success with your training?

In order to train strong, recovery is key! We learned about the importance of nutrition for Recovery during our seminar last week. In addition to Nutrition, here are a few other tips for Recovery:

-Get enough rest!! Our bodies get stronger and our muscles rebuild while we rest. Be sure you incorporate resting days in your training schedule, and enough sleep time!!

-Get a massage! Massages are great care for our muscles. We will have our massage therapist come to the park in the next few weeks!

-Ice and cold baths after long runs! Getting yourself in a cold shower or ice bath after a long run is very benefecial and they help your muscles recover quicker! -

Follow the schedule and avoid overtraining! Unless you are training for another endurance event such as triathlon, we recommend that you follow our schedule as close as possible, incorporate cross training, and avoid overtraining.

FULL MARATHONERS: 12 Mile run/walk

Group A (14-16 min/mile pace) – No Group A participants meeting at this time

Group B (12-14 min/mile pace) - 5:00 AM

Group C (10.5-12 min/mile pace) -5:30 AM

Group D (9.0-10.5 min/mile pace)-5:45 AM

Group E (< 9.0 min/mile pace) - 6:00 AM

HALF MARATHONERS: 6 Mile run/walk

Group A (14-16 min/mile pace) – 6:15 AM

Group B (12-14 min/mile pace) - 6:30 AM

Group C (10.5-12 min/mile pace) -No Group C participants meeting at this time

Group D (9.0-10.5 min/mile pace)-No Group D participants meeting at this time

Group E (< 9.0 min/mile pace) - No Group E participants meeting at this time
 

FITNESS WALKERS!

Group A Fitness Walkers meet for a 7:30 am take off!

WINTER 30 MIN WALK/RUN!

All Winter Participants will be going out for a 30 minute Run/Walk after sign ups. Be sure to come prepared!

Please don't forget to bring your water bottle and a towel.

"My Success Story" By Assistant Coach Athena

Athena enjoys training with FIT!!!

I was born in Miami, FL but grew up in Nassau, Bahamas. I joined FIT in 2000 and have been connected ever since. My husband Torrance bought me my first pair of running shoes to help me keep the 100 lbs off that I gained when I quit smoking!!!!

There is no way, that I could have imagined running 5 miles; let alone 26.2!!!!

Thanks to God & FIT, I have completed 6 full marathons and 8 half marathons. There are running groups that are closer to my home, but nothing compares to the beautiful sunrise I get to experience every time I run with the group on A1A; it is simply priceless and is worth all of the extra miles that I have to drive.

Dear Athena,
Congratulations on all your accomplishments! We are thrilled to have you in our group and having you as a part of our FIT Leadership Team is such a blessing! Thank you for all you do and for helping us change lives one step at a time! :) Keep up the GREAT job!

Janice had a great 10 miler!

"Had a GREAT 10 mile run this morning -- mostly THANKS to my wonderful friend GOLD--who made me have the best 10 mile pace in a long time!! THEN AWESOME FIT coaches had Ft Lauderdale Firefighters waiting for us as we crossed the finish line to HOSE us down!! What a great way to end a run! Thanks to all the coaches, especially Marcela, Audrey, Terry-the wonderful announcer and Greg, the best photographer!"
