We will be training for the local events including the Ft Lauderdale 13.1, Disney, ING Miami, and the A1A Marathon and Half Marathons. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND SPREAD THE WORD! WINTER SIGN UP SESSIONS ARE SATURDAY AUGUST 1st AND 8th. Be sure to tell your family and friends and come join the fun! REMINDERS!

Exclusive FIT CPR Training this Thursday ! Our CPR training is this Thursday, June 25 at 5:30 pm at the McNab Executive Plaza, 1000 W. McNab Road in Pompano Beach, FL. The cost for this class is $35. You will receive your American Red Cross Certification Card right after the class. If you are interested in joining our FIT CPR training, please contact Assistant Coach Debbie at [email protected] or simply show up! Family members are welcome to participate.

FIT Shoe Drive: Helping the homeless!!

Thank you to those of you who donated shoes last Saturday! If you didn’t, You still have one more chance! We will be collecting all sizes of running/dress shoes after the run this Saturday, June 27th. Donated shoes should be in good condition and clean. Our Shoe Drive is to benefit the Broward Outreach Center North Campus that will conduct their “Third Annual Christmas in July” event on July 3rd to bring “Independence to our homeless men, women and children”. Thank you to Assistant Coach Veronica for coordinating these efforts.

OUR SEMINAR THIS WEEK IS: IT IS NOT CROSS TRAINING – IT IS ALL TRAINING! GET STRONGER, FASTER, FITTER, THROUGH MULTI-SPORT CONDITIONING AND RACING BROUGHT TO US BY MANDY MILLER

Come join us as Mandy Miller, an USA Triathlon Certified Coach, Seven time Ironman finisher (including the World Triathlon Championship in Kona, Hawaii), and a Finisher at the Marathon Des Sables – (a 6 day running stage race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco), talks to us about the great benefits of multi sport activities and the excitement and fun behind them!
Mandy's broad experience will help us better understand how to become fitter, faster and stronger! Mandy is an amazing Athlete and we are very honored to have her as our speaker this Saturday. She recently placed 3rd overall female at Keys 100/50 miler, she is also a 3 time member of USA Triathlon long course world championship team, she is an Escape from Alcatraz finisher, and a Finisher of the Swim across Tampa Baybrings, among other numerous multi sport events. Mandy has also completed several marathons including Boston, New York and many more. Don’t miss out on this valuable and GREAT seminar!

Baltimore Marathon: Hotel Update: Special rate deadline quickly approaching! Attention Baltimore Participants, hotels are quickly selling out! We have made reservations at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel and currently have a block of 10 rooms reserved for our members. If you are interested in reserving one of these rooms, PLEASE BOOK NOW! SATURDAY, JUNE 27th
This Saturday, all groups will go out for an 12 mile walk/run.
Please note the different start times according to your group!
Please be at the park 15 minutes prior to your start time.

Group A (14-16 min/mile pace) - 4:30 AM
Group B (12-14 min/mile pace) - 5:00 AM
Group C (10.5-12 min/mile pace) -5:30 AM
Group D (9.0-10.5 min/mile pace)-5:45 AM
Group E (< 9.0 min/mile pace) - 6:00 AM

 

PLEASE NOTEIf you are not training for a full marathon in the fall, it is not necessary for you to continue to increase your miles. We will now have an “informal/short miles group option”.

Distance and times will be announced in this newsletter weekly. This Saturday, this “short miles group” will meet at 6:15 am and will go for 6 miles . Various paces are welcome and everyone is leaving the park at the same time regardless of their pace. If you haven’t been coming and feel comfortable with 6 miles, this will be a great opportunity for you to come back! Group A, B and C will have a leader to go with. If you run another pace, feel free to come, but you may not have a leader.

CONGRATULATIONS LARS ON PLACING FIRST 4 TIMES IN YOUR SWIMMING COMPETITIONS!

Please join us in congratulating our Assistant Coach Lars Ferron on his great victories during his national swimming competition last weekend! Lars not only placed first four times, but he also placed 2nd in two additional competitions. Way to go Lars! You made us so proud!

Lars is happy joining FIT has made him a faster swimmer!

I was born in Painesville, Ohio and currently reside in Sunrise, FL. I’m a computer analysis for the Palm Beach County School Board in West Palm Beach, Florida.
I am an All-American master swimmer and currently a member of USMA and Gold Coast Master Swimming Club.
Wanting to learn how to run a marathon, I joined FIT in April, 2007. The goal at that time was to complete the 2008 Walt Disney World Marathon. Knowing that this will be a challenge, I followed the FIT training schedule and tried not to miss any runs. Just because I am a swimmer does not mean I get a free card. Swimming and running are very different because of the muscles you use. I do have the cardio, but I know that if I miss my weekly run. I will not do well on Saturday. At first my motivation was to complete a marathon but what I found out later was that my swimming times dropped dramatically which was great! In the 2007 U.S. Masters Swimming National Long Course Championships held in Texas, I placed eight in the 100 meter butterfly and in the team relay I came in first.

Running and cross training has helped me become a stronger swimmer! After joining FIT, I broke my 100 yards butterfly high school time by a second! Now running is the catalyst for my swimming. Thank you Friends In Training!

Lars has become a strong FIT Assistant Coach and a very important part of our FIT leadership team. Lars we are so happy to have you! And we are very proud of you for all your swimming and running accomplishments. We are looking forward to hearing more wonderful stories of personal records broken. You are terrific!
