THIS SATURDAY 12 &6 Miles!!

This Saturday we are scheduled for our first 12 miler of the Winter Season yeah! Plus, Fall and Winter groups are merging again so it will be so much fun!
Winter participants, do not let the high miles scare you. If you have been following the schedule and you practice what you have learned in the last few weeks, especially last weekend during our “preparation for long runs” seminar, you will be just fine. We know you can do it! We believe in you!

If you have not been following the schedule for whatever reason but still want to come out, and feel comfortable with 6 miles, we will have an informal 6 mile group going out at 6:15 am. You may not have a leader for your pace, but you may have others informally joining you like those who participated in Baltimore or Chicago last weekend, or those who will be participating in Marine Corps Marathon next week, as they are scheduled for 6 miles as well.

SAFETY REMINDER!

Please remember to practice safety. If you use head phones, please have them only in one ear so the other ear is clear to hear what is going on around you. You need to be able to hear for cars and everything else to avoid accidents. Please do not run on the bike lane. Cross the streets at the light, keep a single file on the bridges and narrow sidewalks allowing others to go by, and if you feel overheated, use the beach showers! It feels great to get your head under the shower! :) Don’t forget to wear your FIT shirts and have fun everyone!

"My Success Story " By Sheri Powers

Sheri is happy about completing her First Marathon!

I live across the street from George English Park, and would see you all running past my house on Saturday mornings. Since I am now entering my late 30's I thought I need to get myself moving to stay in shape, so I joined FIT in April '09.
Before April I was never a runner. I thought you just threw on a pair of sneakers and ran! People in the group would ask which marathon I was training for and I would just reply that I am only here to get in shape, no marathon for me. I have never been in a 5K event, never even seen a running event for that matter!

Now here I am 6 months later and I just returned from Baltimore where I ran and completed my first marathon! I was a nervous wreck the weeks before the marathon as many of you know! I had no idea what to expect and could not even imagine what it would be like to run with 19,999 other runners. Does the gun go off and 20,000 of us just start running and throwing elbows? I was truly clueless!

So many people in Friends In Training would share their experiences with me and offer me much welcomed advise which I am extremely thankful for. The Baltimore Marathon was such a great experience! I loved every moment of it- the crowds cheering (wore my name on my shirt & felt like a celebrity!), the bands playing, taking food from strangers along the course, & running in the cool weather! All of it was just awesome, something I never thought I would do!

I am so glad I joined Friends In Training, not just because I was trained to accomplish running a marathon, but because I have met so many wonderful people. I moved to Florida 6 years ago from Philadelphia and have not met nice people like those in this group (I wish I would have joined a long time ago). Everyone is full of encouragement towards each other and there is such a positive energy even on those early 4 am training runs! I just wanted to thank all of my new FIT friends- the laughter will keep me coming back for more!

Great Job Sheri! We are so proud of you! you did TERRIFIC! and we love to hear you had such a great time, and that you love the group. We love having you!!! :)
